Stefan Trausan-Matu, PhD is Professor at the Computer Science Department of the University Politehnica of Bucharest (UPB), and principal researcher at the Institute of Artificial Intelligence of the Romanian Academy (RACAI). He was a Fulbright Visitor Scholar post-doc at Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA, USA, was invited professor and lectured in USA, Netherlands, France, Germany, San Marino, Puerto Rico, etc. His research interests are at the confluence of Artificial Intelligence, Discourse Analysis, Knowledge Construction, Education, Social Web, Philosophy, and Music. He introduced the Polyphonic Model and Analysis Methodology for collaboration, learning and creativity, based on the idea that these activities have essential common points with the polyphonic music.
He is the Head of the K-Teams Colaborative Knowledge Construction Laboratory in UPB, was the Deputy Director of RACAI, and conducted of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the National Informatics Research Institute in Romania. He was the Director of research projects for the Romanian part in international European Union funded research projects (PEKADS, LarFLaST, IKF, Inf3S, SkyNurse, LTfLL), participated in others (NSF-VMT, PAIL, EU-NCIT, COOPER, ERRIC, TOWNTOLOGY, MUMIA, Republic of Letters, RAGE, etc.) and coordinated many national ones. He is Vicepresident of the Romanian Chapter of ACM SIGCHI and member of the Romanian Scientists Academy. He chaired international conferences and participated to the program or organizing committee of many others. Prof Trausan-Matu has authored or edited 19 books, authored 40 book chapters and more than 300 peer-reviewed papers.
